And we’re back with another issue of Street Photography Magazine! This month we have plenty in store for all you avid street shooters out there.
It’s always refreshing to interview street photographers like this month’s featured photographer, Carla Fiorina. In this month’s audio interview, Carla spoke with us about how and why she takes her passion so seriously. Carla believes that street photography tells a story, in fact, she calls it “history in the making”. We’re sure you’ll enjoy listening to the interview and viewing a beautiful collection of some of Carla’s touching, and ever so human, photographs.
Neenad Arul shared an interesting project with us as well titled “Random Red Numbers”. Neenad’s project reveals the essence of local life on Mumbai’s Marine Drive. A common thread found in his photos are red numbers on walls, which were written by the local municipal body during a recent refurbishing program.
Back this month with a meaningful project is David Valera. This time he’s working on an ongoing project he calls “Dark is the Light”, in which he uses the contrast of light and darkness to depict the paradox of life. Don’t miss his introverted look at life and death, light and dark, harmony and disparity, the mysterious and the strange, the significance of the insignificant.
Jesse Kalisher is a master photographer and storyteller. In his words, “A great photograph (for me) is one in which both the aesthetic and the meaning fight equally for our attention. It’s easy to create a pretty picture. It’s easy to create a photograph with a meaningful story. But create a picture that has both elements and you’ve got a treasure.” Jesse shared one of his treasures with us this issue, which is comprised of one epic street shot and the story behind it in his article “Times Square at the Millennium”.
Finally, be sure to view this month’s hand picked selection of street shooters. The shots are compelling and come to you from some new and intriguing places and perspectives this time around. Many thanks to our shooters of the month Mark Brown, Zahid Rahman, Md. Enamul Kabir,Andrés César, Lance Shigematsu, Kannan Muthuraman, Baptiste Ledebt and Subro Sengupta. Don’t miss these.
Thanks for joining us again this month as we explore street photography with both professional and amateur photographers from around the globe and as always, keep shooting!
