I like to take horizontal black and white film picture. This timeless sense of the black and white and especially the film fascinates me.
We can take a picture in 2016 but thanks to the black and white, the picture is full of mystery as to the time. I shoot with a Nikon FG – 50mn lens because I want to be the one moving towards what I want to photograph, I am engaging with the city that way as I am the one exploring it.
When I come back to Paris my hometown, I feel that black and white film is right as the weather is usually grey and for the timelessness sense I want to portray.
The Hausmann style reminds us of the history of Paris but in 2016, we also have our contemporary societies. That is the contrast I am trying to capture.
In the picture above, the Eiffel tower is emblematic of the historical Paris but the plane in the middle is a reminder of our societies (air transport).
How Paris is modernizing itself while keeping its identity of city of light ? I started this project in 2010 when I moved to New York and it is still on going.
Going back and forth to Paris is stimulating me as an euphoria takes me every time I arrive in Paris.
