The Miami Street Photography Festival has just announced their workshop lineup for 2018 and it looks pretty great to us! Here’s a quick overview. Click on each subheading to get all the details and register.
Constantine Manos has been a Magnum photographer since 1963. I mean really, need I say more? No, but I will. A quick look at his portfolio and you’ll see we are talking about a man who has been beautifully documenting life for more than five decades. You can imagine all the gems you’d take home after spending a few days with a photographer with that much experience under his belt.

Total Number of Students: 12
Workshop Objective: To teach students to make extraordinary images out of ordinary people, places and events.

Nick Turpin is a London-based photographer, often known for being the founding father of the iN-PUBLiC street photography group. He is also the Art Director of STREET LONDON. A quick visit to Nick’s website reveals a street photogrpahy that is uniquely his own, which is exactly what he’ll be teaching students to accomplish.
Workshop Dates: Wednesday, December 5 – Friday, December 7
Workshop Cost: $750
Workshop Objective: For students to discover and own their individual visual vocabulary, thereby turning their street photography into something unique and identifiably their own.
Ibarionex Perello (you might remember him as the featured photographer in the August issue of SPM), has been in the photography industry for over 25 years. He’s also the host of one of our favorite photogrpahy podcasts, The Candid Frame.
Workshop Dates: Thursday, December 6 – Friday, December 7
Workshop Cost: $575
Workshop Objective: Students will learn to break down a scene into its basic visual elements (light and shadow, line and shape, color and gesture) and to use awareness of those elements to produce exceptional photographs. They will discover how to develop a personal and repeatable approach to street photography.
Maggie Steber is a documentary photography who focuses on humanistic issues. She has shot people, places and events all over the world for the past three decades. Her website is called “The Audacity of Beauty” and it is, well, beautiful. (Make sure you watch that video on the homepage, guys.)
Workshop Dates: Tuesday, December 4 – Saturday, December 8
Workshop Cost: $899
Workshop Objective: Students will go on a nighttime search for photographic mystery in the streets of Miami. Each photographer will take on the theme of “Mystery”, creating an essay inspired by the sights of the city. This workshop will push each student to consider new ways of looking at their photography.
What You’ll Need:
- Not much, because the Leica Akademie will provide a selection of Leica cameras for students to use during this course.
