The Mission District Project

San Francisco has always been an inspiration for me and my photography – a place that breathes art and creativity and has seen countless brilliant minds and ideas – one of the few real timeless cites still alive in the world today. To be able to photograph a place like that was something that had been in my head for a while and living in Southern California only a few hours from there, I knew that when I had my first chance I would pack my things and hit the road.

This project was made about the Mission District of SF and it’s part of a bigger project that I started, where in the next few years I’ll try to capture the many different sides of the city, trying to pass on the timeless feeling I have about that place.

The Mission has something special and ended up being the place I felt more intimacy with, where I spent most of my time living and shooting everyday what life had to offer me, a place that has a unique feel with true art and underground culture pumping in its veins mixed with a raw daily life. The whole project was shot in film and digital and it’s simply a very small contribution to a timeless place that gave me so much and didn’t ask for anything back.

I’m from Brasil, I am 20 years old and I’ve always found myself fascinated by the essence of people and nature, the streets and raw power of everyday life. I discovered photography a couple years ago and since then it turned into a life passion. Supported by my family, I came to California to pursue this dream, I’ve been living in Southern California for a while now and I’m working on my photography major in the California Art Institute.
