If you’re a fan of the popular photo podcast This Week in Photo, you are probably already familiar with Valerie Jardin. If not, here’s the skinny on our guest.
Valerie is a native of Normandy in France, but now makes her home in the Midwestern US in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She’s a longtime commercial and portrait photographer who recently made the switch to teach the craft to others. Through her very popular (and often sold out) workshops around the world, Valerie works with small groups to help students sharpen a variety of photography skills, including street photography.
As a native of France, she specializes in photo-related travel to both Paris and Normandy. Here she goes beyond the standard workshop fare to give attendees a taste of her home country’s food, culture and history from a native’s perspective. I called her the Rick Steves of photo travel.
Among her most popular are several street photo workshops taught in Paris and other locales like, Chicago, New York Minneapolis and Melbourne. In fact, when Valerie isn’t teaching, one of her favorite pastimes is street photography.
Because Valerie is so passionate about teaching street photography I asked her to visit with us to share some of her experience with us. She kindly took time from her busy travel schedule to spend with us.
You can listen to our interview with Valerie in the March 2014 issue of Street Photography Magazine.
