Marie Laigneau is a street photographer in Chicago, but as a native of Paris, she brings a distinct European style to her work. Unlike many street photographers who seek to capture realism, Marie instead uses her captures to create images that spark stories and/or questions in the viewers’ minds.
During the day she works as a strategic consultant in the corporate world in downtown Chicago. I thought her profession might require using a different part of her brain than she would use for her creative work, but she says her job requires as much creativity as her photography, so the two are quite complimentary.
Marie is constantly learning about how to improve her work. She is also very active helping others learn and serves as a moderator in the BlackAndWhiteStreet.com Google+ Community to do just that.
Later this year she’ll be returning to Europe, this time to London, where she’ll apply her skills in that vibrant city. It will be Chicago’s loss.
You can listen to our interview with Marie in the March 2014 issue of Street Photography Magazine.
