Citizens of Hackney by Alex Amorós

Alex Amorós is at it again, this time with a project called “Citizens of Hackney.” He describes the project like so:

“Citizens of Hackney is a project carried out in the different areas of this Borough of London during August 2020. I have photographed in natural light and in colour to show the diversity, creativity, culture and variety of Hackney during this dark year.“

And that’s really what struck me about this particular project. It’s bright, happy even. It’s almost hard to believe this is a portrait project that was taken in 2020 – a year consisting generally of gloom and doom. It’s a fresh take on people, their resilience maybe, but I’ll let you be the judge. You can see the portrait series for yourself here.

If you love the series and want it in book form for your coffee table collection, order a copy here.

And don’t forget to check out other projects by Alex on his website. He has quite a collection and is a great source of inspiration if you want to up your street portrait game.
