This photo series is a heartfelt tribute to the often-overlooked heroes of our society—the dedicated working-class individuals who tirelessly toil day and night to enhance our lives. They are the unsung heroes, the backbone of our communities, yet their significant contributions often go unnoticed amidst our daily lives. Despite enduring challenging and unhealthy work conditions, they ensure our well-being, sparing us from arduous circumstances.
These individuals are the lifeblood of our society, found in various roles from coolie to welding workers, all indispensable to our daily lives. They persevere through demanding work, often for bare minimum wages and zero recognition.
The series aims to shed light on their resilience, telling stories of perseverance and triumph through each photograph. It seeks to remind us that while we go about our routines, these individuals are the silent force that keeps our communities intact.
Each photograph freezes a moment of their lives, capturing their determination and sometimes weariness. It’s an invitation to appreciate the sacrifices they make, serving as a reminder that they are the essence of our communities, deserving our acknowledgment and gratitude.
My journey into this project spanned an entire year, commencing in the early months of 2022 and culminating in the midst of 2023. During this extensive period, I embarked on a quest through various locales in Dhaka city, including the historic Lalbag, bustling Karwan Bazar, the vibrant Keraniganj Dockyard, the bustling Sadarghat, and the lively Nazira Bazar. My quest led me to individuals engaged in an eclectic array of odd jobs, from resilient coolies to skilled chemical mixers, dedicated shoe sole cutters, diligent welding mechanics, resourceful bird sellers, and resilient tomato dealers.
The impetus behind embarking on this project was a fervent desire to bring the lives and enduring challenges of these remarkable individuals to the forefront. I aimed to introduce my audience to the very people who work diligently behind the scenes, rendering our daily lives possible. These individuals, despite the immense significance of their contributions, often find themselves on the periphery of our societal consciousness. I believed it was time to accord them the recognition they so rightly deserve, shedding light on their invaluable role in shaping our society.
This photography series is not merely a visual narrative; it is an endeavor to unveil the extraordinary amidst the ordinary. It ventures to portray the unimaginable and often perilous working conditions that these resilient individuals grapple with daily.
