Three is a number that has cultural and religious meaning in many societies. You’ve probably heard the saying “all good things come in threes.”

In this project, I have photographed things and people that make up a trio. Then, I looked for connections between individual photos to create pairs where the two images in some way resonate with each other.

To try and see connections between images has become more and more important for me as it is a way build larger entities. Particularly the pairing of images has piqued my interest, since image pairs can constitute a spread in a book. And I like books. I enjoy photo books made by others but I also create my own books.

The reason why I photograph ‘trios’ in this particular project is unclear, but could possibly be that I have three daughters. Or maybe it’s because the number three is a bit mysterious and thrilling.

Most of the things and people photographed are what many would consider ‘ordinary’. As time goes on, hopefully some may find some of the things and people photographed to be extraordinary.

The project “Trinities” is part of the larger project “Photographing the Ordinary,” where I photograph and document ordinary things and people of the time I live in.
