Streets Of OTR
As travel is difficult due to the pandemic I decided to start a new 2021 street photography project in my backyard. Over The Rhine (OTR) is working class urban historic neighborhood of Cincinnati Ohio. The name comes from the predominantly German immigrants who developed the area in the mid 19th century. Many of whom walked to work across bridges over the Miami and Erie Canal which separated OTR from downtown Cincinnati.
The canal was nicknamed ‘the Rhine’ in reference to the river Rhine in Germany. COVID-19 is making it difficult for street photographers as it’s challenging just to find people on the streets and with the numbers so low it’s difficult to also photograph them without them seeing me. I loved this billboard and hung out for for maybe 40 minutes hoping the right character would walk into my frame. No luck so I left but 3 blocks away I saw a lady with her two children walking in that direction. I hustled back and was able to capture three pics. This was my favorite.
