Interview with Valérie Jardin

This month marks the halfway point of our Year of Women Street Photographers. It’s a special milestone, made even more special because we were able to interview our friend, Valérie Jardin. Valérie is a prolific street photographer and author who leads several street photography workshops each year around the globe. She’s a fantastic storyteller and an excellent teacher.

We spoke to Valérie about the challenges brought on by the pandemic and how to see photographically, and she even talked to us about her personal street photography work, which is just beautiful. Click on the audio player below to hear our interview with this accomplished street shooter.

Valerie Jardin

Photography changed my life forever. The day I picked up a camera I became a storyteller. Photography is my passion, my obsession, my addiction. It’s what I do to earn a living and for pleasure on my days off. I live and breathe in pixels! My passion for humankind drives me to shoot mostly street photography. I thrive on searching and waiting for just the right moment when a story unfolds in a single frame. I also look to shoot the extraordinary in the ordinary - it's in the details. I've learned to see when I look, to find beauty everywhere. Although I love wandering the streets of large cities, the natural world around me always amazes me. I feel so privileged to see it all through my lens. Born and raised in France, I currently live in Minnesota, USA.
