What a better way to wrap up our Year of Women Street Photographers than by having a video interview with Margarita Mavromichalis, one of our favorite street photographers who just happens to be a woman. Now, I say “street photographer,” but Margarita is that and so much more. She speaks several languages and has traveled and lived all around the globe, a background that makes it hard to stick to a single genre of photography. Maragarita has done her share of documentary photography and her self portraits are one of a kind. Honestly though, what I admire most about Margarita and her work is her ability to always see something fascinating and beautiful, whether she is 1,000 miles from home or walking around her own city block for the tenth time this week.
It was a real pleasure to hop on Zoom and spend some time getting to know Margarita better and looking over some of her images. We looked at some of her street photography images as well as a stunning series of self portraits that helped Margarita make it through a long lockdown due to the pandemic. The emotions she was able to portray in these images are sure to resonate with you.
