Interview with Julia Diehl

Julia Diehl is one of those people that will have you laughing and feeling like an old friend after a chat of just a few minutes. She is a hoot! Needless to say, our hour or so interviewing her flew by. And did I mention she’s a fantastic photographer?

One thing that really caught our attention about Julia’s photography is how she presents New York City, one of the most photographed cities in the world, from a totally unique perspective. Julia shoots low, really low, revealing a NYC where both people and buildings tower skywards in a refreshing new take on the city. She’s also a pretty tireless photographer when she’s in street photography mode, hitting the streets for eight hours at a time and in all kinds of weather.

There’s plenty to learn from Julia’s approach to street photography and I’m sure she’ll keep you laughing like she did us for the duration of the interview.

A selection of Julia’s photos

Julia Diehl

My name is Julia Diehl, I’m a street photographer from the New York City suburbs in New Jersey. I started in photography at five years of age. From the start I greatly preferred taking photos of people out and about over other disciplines. I’m very lucky to be living very close to one of the premier street photography cities in the world, New York City. This affords me unlimited opportunities to capture the people that make up this mighty metropolis. I’ve attempted to approach street photography in ways that are not usually done. I hope from this, comes some fresh perspectives in the art that we love so much.
