Interview with Irina Escoffery

As you know, 2021 is Street Photography Magazine’s “Year of Women.” Each month this year, our featured photographer will be a woman and the entire January issue is made up of articles and interviews with women street photographers. We’re super excited to share these lovely ladies’ work with you and we’re kicking off the year with an interview we enjoyed immensely.

We first got to know Irina Escoffery from her submissions to the magazine and our Facebook community, and the more we saw, the more we wanted to talk to this talented street photographer. Hearing Irina’s thoughts on street photography and a few details about her personal journey revealed a thoughtful, caring person who puts a lot of feeling into her work. In addition, Irina is one of the few street photographers we’ve met who will literally do just about anything to capture that perfect shot (which makes for some pretty amusing anecdotes). I have a feeling you’re going to enjoy getting to know Irina as much as we did.

A Selection of Irina’s Photos

Irina Escoffery

Irina Escoffery was born in Russia, former USSR. In 1999 she immigrated to the United States. She is a passionate street photographer who spends all her free time photographing New York and its people. Her work is not widely known to a large public but her photographic work is dynamic, expressive and emotional. Irina still works in developing her unique distinctive style and she experiments a lot with different techniques and approaches. The photography helps her appreciate the value of every single day and turn everyday life into the artistic form.
