Interview with Deborah Cole

Can you believe we are already more than halfway through our year of women street photographers? This month we continue our series with Deborah Cole who lives in Austin, Texas. Not only does Debby have a real passion for street photography, she is very skilled at coming up with and putting together photo projects for books, galleries, and other street photography events. Plus, she’s incredibly easy to talk to.

Debby spoke to us about her own personal journey with street photography, her travels, her techniques, and she even shared a few valuable things she’s learned over the years. We hope you enjoy our conversation with Debby, as well as this selection of her images from Texas and beyond. Click on the audio player to listen in.

Deborah Cole

I am a veteran of the corporate world who has chosen to live fully as a creative individual. Although I have been a casual photographer all of my life (landscapes, travel primarily) I also fully enjoy street photography as it allows me to shoot any where and any time and to really connect with the subject(s). When not capturing life around me, I write and speak in various venues and to diverse groups. I always use my images in my articles, blogs and talks whenever possible. Connecting with my surroundings is key to my life experiences. And sharing these with others is my delight. Landscape and travel photography has taken me all of the world. Although majestic mountains, wild animals and dramatic colors capture my interest, there is nothing like being completely with the people of an area and experiencing them through my lens to really get to know a place. The people are what make any location real. People are people everywhere but their unique culture sets them apart.
