This month’s featured photographer, David Winkler, is a retired Los Angeles police detective. What made our audio interview so interesting?
David spoke about the effect his career as a detective has on his street photography. He also talked about some of his other pursuits that affect his photography in L.A. For example, David spends quite a bit of time in the huge homeless area of the city. He describes the experience as invasive and tragic, yet fascinating. The experience is more than just photography for David, who mentioned that it can become difficult to draw a dividing line between himself and his subjects, a sentiment I’m sure more than a few of us share when we’re shooting strangers on the street.
