My project is the reflection of my own feelings I have experienced here. I travel a lot, but Bali remains one of my favourite places, the place I want to go back to again and again.
Bali has an unique atmosphere, religion and culture, it’s a completely different world. It’s a world in itself. All of these photos I took from 2011 to 2013 during my trips to Bali. My first trip to Asia started in Sri Lanka and, to be honest, I had never dreamt of getting as far east as I did. The promising feedback from travelers and surfers made me undertake this challenge. I arrived on the island in April 2011 for the first time. I used Nikon D700 camera and only the 50/1.8 lens for the project.
It’s difficult to describe the island in words, many things remain unspoken because of the special way Bali expresses itself, honors its history, its religion, its culture. Bali is a place where people come to escape from routine dimensions, common beliefs and season change. People come for fun or adventure, but the fact is that instead of losing yourself in a tropical paradise, you’re more likely to find true spiritual freedom. The island is not a distraction, it’s a chance to think outside the box. Don’t hesitate, use it, stay focused, feel the vibe, and you’ll gain more. Local Balinese people are friendly, so I had no problem with this project. They are very religious.
The island isn’t as idyllic as posters state and locals’ lives are far from harmony, but somehow it manages to fill you with calm and peace, a unique aura surrounds you here.
My only advice to those who seek their own inner Bali is very simple: always shoot whatever, whoever, whenever you want.
