A warm welcome to all of you joining us for this special free issue of Street Photography magazine. Normally, our magazine is composed of several photo stories and projects, how-to articles and reviews. This month however, we’ve decided to share a special event with our readers by showcasing some of the most powerful images submitted to the very first Siena International Photo Awards competition.

What is the Siena International Photo Awards competition? Here are a few excerpts from the SIPA website
describing what the competition is all about:

“The Cultural Association Art Photo Travel, sponsored by the City of Siena and the University of Siena, has launched the International Photo Contest “Siena International Photography Awards” (SIPA), International Photography Prize, where photographers around the world, both amateurs and professionals will be able to participate.

The aim of the competition is to promote the art of photography through a coordinated set of initiatives designed to provide an international stage and a vision of absolute importance and prestige to the participants.

The initiative also wants to be a springboard for new talent.”

“The projects are not only for those who love art and culture, but also for those interested in the unknown aspects and less touristic places, for those who like dreaming impossible dreams and for those who want to know them through the eyes of others who have lived and recorded their experiences.

[This is] an approach oriented at growing a sensibility toward a culture mainly imprinted by understanding the people and the place.”

The winners of this year’s SIPA competition have already been painstakingly selected by a panel that judged over 15,000 entries from photographers in over 100 countries.

The competition ends on a high note with a photographic “Beyond the Lens” exposition of the winning photographs as well as many finalists’ images displayed in various venues in Siena’s historic district. The exposition will run from October 31, 2015 until November 30, 2015.

If you aren’t able to make it to Siena to enjoy both the beautiful city and the “Beyond the Lens” exposition, then we hope you enjoy this small glimpse at the captivating images of some of the many SIPA winners.

Until next month, happy shooting!
