First Place
“Colors Of Dance” by Yingxi Shi (China)
“The Colors of Dance Project is my ongoing photographic journey, which showcases dancers of various genres in urban environments. With one photograph, I seek to express: city history, dance as art, fashion design, color variance, beautiful architecture and an expression of freedom. To me, pictures are taken to tell stories. I always ask my dancers to wear pedestrian clothes, sometimes a vintage ensemble and then I place them anywhere, but not onstage. It may be under a less-travelled tree in Central Park, the front of an abandoned power plant in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York, or perhaps the boardwalk along the Bund in Shanghai. Wherever the location may be, these images will stir up feelings of enlightenment and evoke various emotions in the viewer about the city’s vivid history.”
