GMB Akash and the Power of Street Photography

Hey there street shooters! Here’s a must see video for you on this Friday morning! GMB Akash was one of the SIPA contest jurors this year and in this short video he talks about his images, his techniques and what street photography means.

He encourages photographers to follow their passion and capture images that tell a story. I think that is what hits home the most in this video, the reminder of the beauty of street/documentary photography. Not only are most street images genuine works of art, they also tell stories, sometimes stories that are difficult to tackle or even put into words. For example, in this video Akash shares several heart-rending shots depicting the child labor situation, a few of which brought real attention to this problem on an international level. The point is, as street photographers, we can tell powerful stories of current social and cultural issues. This is a privilege and a responsibility. So never give up, we can all make a difference.
