This post comes to you a little late, but we wanted to make sure you checked out issue 34 of SPM in case you hadn’t already. This month we feature an audio interview with Victor “Vito” Necho, known as vitlox on Instagram. Vito was the winner of a contest we did with StreetLife Award on Instagram. He lives in Lisbon and was a professional photographer years back who worked mainly with medium format film. He eventually switched careers, and years later picked up photography again, but this time shooting streets with his iPhone 6S. His style and perspective are compelling and unique. We know you’re going to love his photographs and our interview with him.
Kevin Shelley shares the third installment of his Leica M Edition 60 review, this time trying out this gem of a camera on the streets. Kevin shares some beautiful street shots taken with the M Edition 60, as well as his thoughts on whether you should consider investing in this top dollar camera for your street expeditions. Even if you don’t plan to shoot with a Leica Kevin’s images are worth the read.
Chris Gouge tackles a frequently debated topic in his article “Why I Shoot Colour.” Most of his street shots are taken in color and, may we just say, they are stunning. In his article, Chris makes some valid points as to why many street photos look best in color instead of black and white.
In the article, “Theyyam – The Living Gods,” Manish Lakhani takes us on a trip to the small village of Kerala in search of living gods right here on earth. Some scholars believe that the Theyyam of north Malabar are a rare survival of some pre-Aryan or non-Brahminical Dravidian religious system that was later absorbed in to Hinduism’s capacious embrace. Whatever the case, their culture lives on and Manish captured it magnificently. Don’t miss this story along with its stunning collection of photos.
We’ve also included a thought provoking article from Victor Gómez. Victor talks about five common photographic myths. Natural born talent, Photoshop, and gear are all under debate in this article. As Victor says, “…though I’m no expert, I do believe that my opinion about several photographic myths could be interesting.” We certainly thought so.
And of course don’t miss the Street Shooters of the month. This month we feature images by Naveen Gowtham, Jens Franke, Jonathan Alvarenga, Marc Wick, Keith Reid, Giga Kobidze, Brian Miller, Sina Motamed Rad and Gina Williams.
