Why do I love selin1968’s street shots? They make me feel like I’m in some kind of dream world. I love the slightly surreal feel he captures when he shoots.
When I asked him what drew him to street photography and what his motivation is for heading out to the streets to shoot, this is what he replied,
“For the time being street photography covers my needs for creativity. Also give me the opportunity to interact with my everyday living environment. At this moment I don’t think that I’m trying to accomplish something. Taking photos give me genuine pleasure like when we were kids and played just for fun.”
Those words struck me. Finding pleasure in creativity and interaction with others – these may just be the foundations of street photography.
I noticed selin had several shots of a particular vendor and asked him if the location was special to him for any particular reason. He responded like this,
“The repetitive appearance of the vendor is coincidence due to the fact that is small city. Sometimes I find myself recognizing even the street dogs in the centre of my city.”
Even better, I admire photographers that are able to see their own familiar surroundings in a creative light. I am thoroughly impressed by selin’s ability to take what is familiar to him and turn it into something extraordinarily beautiful, as if he was seeing the people and places around him for the very first time.
Selin also has a knack for capturing shots at night and in low-light situations. He mentioned that a solid knowledge of how to use your gear as well as a knowledge of where to find interesting city light conditions where you live are key to capturing these kinds of shots.
A huge thanks to selin1968 for sharing his thoughts and inspirations with us. You have inspired us to keep searching out beauty in things familiar and to continue improving our craft.
